Load and all-wheel drive
An SUV is often heavier than a car on the same tyre size, so the load index matters even more: choose at least the index the vehicle manufacturer specifies and, where required, a reinforced XL tyre. More in our article on load index.
All-wheel drive systems are sensitive to differences in rolling circumference between the front and rear wheels. We recommend replacing all four tyres at once and following the vehicle manufacturer's guidance on how much tyre wear may differ between the axles.
Road, AT or MT tyres
- Road tyres – for driving mainly on asphalt: quieter and more precise.
- AT (All Terrain) – a compromise between asphalt and gravel or forest roads.
- MT (Mud Terrain) – large tread blocks for mud and rough terrain; noisier on asphalt.
You can narrow the selection by intended use with the “Tyre purpose” filter.
SUV tyres in winter
In Estonia, SUVs too must run on winter tyres from 1 December to 1 March. Many AT and MT tyres carry the M+S marking, but as non-studded winter tyres they are allowed only if they also have the three-peak mountain snowflake symbol (3PMSF); the only exception is professional off-road tyres marked POR. See winter tyres and our article on the 3PMSF marking.
Why this page opens with 215/65 R16
The category opens with 215/65 R16 as an example. The same size is also made as a C-rated van tyre, so before buying check that the load and speed indices meet the requirements of your vehicle. Your size is on the sticker in the driver's door frame; select it in the “Tyre size” filter or use the “By vehicle” search on the home page.
