215/65 R16 van tyres
Van tyres are built for heavier loads and higher pressures: they carry the letter C after the size and often two load indices. This page opens with 215/65 R16 as an example; your van's size and load index are on the sticker in the driver's door frame. Read the guide

The C marking and two load indices
A van tyre has the letter C right after the rim diameter, for example 215/65 R16C 109/107T. Its casing is reinforced so that it can carry heavier loads at higher pressure than a car tyre of the same size.
- 109 – load index on single wheels: up to 1,030 kg per tyre;
- 107 – load index on twin wheels (two wheels on each side of the axle): up to 975 kg per tyre;
- T – speed index: up to 190 km/h.
Legal requirement: each tyre's load capacity must be at least half the maximum permitted axle load on single wheels and at least a quarter of it on twin wheels. Do not fit a van with tyres of a lower load index than the manufacturer specifies, even in the same size. See our article on load index.
Pressure depends on the load
C tyres need higher pressure than car tyres, and many vans have different pressures for an empty and a loaded vehicle. You will find the correct values on the sticker in the driver's door frame or in the owner's manual. Check the pressure when the tyres are cold and adjust it to the load.
Vans in winter
In Estonia, winter tyres are mandatory from 1 December to 1 March for vans too (category N1, maximum mass up to 3.5 t). Non-studded winter tyres must carry the 3PMSF symbol, and during this period the tread depth of winter tyres must be at least 3.0 mm. If you use studded tyres, they must be fitted on all wheels of the van.
Why this page opens with 215/65 R16
The category opens with 215/65 R16 as an example. This size is made both as a C-rated van tyre and as a car or SUV tyre, so before buying compare the C marking and the load index with your van's requirements. Choose another size in the “Tyre size” filter; to show only C tyres, use the “Load type” filter.
